interparliamrentary
comnittee meeting
with
national
parliaments
to take
place
ol1

in
the
European Parliament's
premises
in
B¡ussels.
The
meeting
..
be
the

first
interparliamentary
committee
debate
in
the European
Pa¡liament
on
the
European Semester decided
by
the
Ecofin
Council on
7
September'.
It
wiil
focus on
the majo¡
political
economic
priorities
ofthe
European
Semester, on tbe
one
land,
and
oa
the
role of
the national parÏaments
and
the
European
Parliament
in
the
Semester,
on
the
other
hand-
will
The
Er.nopean Semester
is
meant
üo
be
the period every
year
during which the
Member
Stafes'
budgetàry
and
structu¡al
policies
will
be
reviewed
to
dctect any inconsistencies and
emerging imbalances.
The
aim
is
to rei¡fo¡ce
coordination
wbile
major
budgetary decisions
are
still
under
pieparation
The European Parliament believes

the
national parliaments
and the

Pa¡liament
itself
must
be
i¡volved ia
st¡ch a
strategic
debate and
intends
to

sure

the
Council
and
the
Commission.are
held
accountable
in
the

the
European

of

ECON
Comnittee
have
e4pressed
the
wish
to
develop
a
fruitfif
coopeÉtioÌr
with
national
parliaments
in
this
respec! namely
by
organising
an
inærparliamentary
committee meeting
in March
2011 on
the subject.
