Inquiry regarding EU funding allocated to Roma inclusion
12 November 2014
Ref.
Dear First Vice-President Timmermans,
The European Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament travelled to Hun-
gary on 2-4 November 2014 to examine the political developments with a par-
ticular focus on rule of law, democracy and human rights, including the rights
of persons belonging to minorities. Amongst other things, the Committee met
with Roma representatives.
Against that backdrop, the Committee would appreciate your response to the
following inquiry:
What was the level of EU funding allocated to Roma inclusion in member
states for the years 2008-2013 – i.e. funding allocated with the purpose of
improving the livelihood of Roma and bridging the gap between Roma
and non-Roma in access to for example (but not necessarily limited to)
housing, education, employment and healthcare.
How have EU funds been distributed to Roma communities, and who has
responsibility for management of the programmes?
What documentation does the Commission have showing that EU funds
have been spent in accordance with the intended purpose (to improve
Roma inclusion and livelihood)?

I hope the Commission will be able to respond to this inquiry and thus contri-
bute to the Danish Parliament’s considerations on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Eva Kjer Hansen
Chairman of the European Affairs Committee
