Dear Colleague,
I am pleased to inform you that the European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and Rural
Development (AGRI) will organize an interparliamentary committee meeting with the
committees of the Member States' Parliaments responsible for agriculture and rural
development, on the following subject:
“The
development of CAP Strategic plans in each Member States”
The meeting will take place on
18 November 2021 from 9:00 to 13.30
on the European
Parliament's premises in Brussels, in the framework of the monthly meeting of the Committee
on Agriculture and Rural development. The meeting will be organised in semi-remote way
(more information will be provided in due course).
The achievement of the provisional agreement on the reform of the CAP, reached in June, is a
solid step towards a more competitive and sustainable European agricultural sector but the
work is not finished yet.
The Member States, in particular, are working on the finalisation and submission of national
Strategic Plans by next December. These plans are setting up strategic measures to achieve a
number of challenging goals that will contribute to fostering a more sustainable and
competitive agricultural sector that supports the livelihood of farmers and provides healthy and
sustainable food for all, as well as making rural areas more vibrant.
In this context, our meeting in November will offer the possibility for National Parliaments to
express their views on the main elements of the new agricultural policy with a special focus on
implementation challenges at national level.
We are therefore pleased to invite up to four members of each National Parliament (two from
each chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to participate in this event .
The Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting will be divided in three panels aimed at discussing
separately the different aspects of the CAP reform.
Should you be unable to attend, we would welcome any written contribution which would be
distributed to our respective Members and other participants.
