Emne: Information for Committee of EU affairs

Dear Ms. Andersen,

we talked last week on the phone about information of members of the Committee for EU affairs of Danish parliament. According to our information this group will be involved in the Danish position on approval of applications for biotechnology products in the EU. Please provide the following information and attachments to the members of this group. We would be happy to provide any additional information at your convenience or attend a face to face meeting to provide oral information.

Please let me know, that you have got the email. Thank you.

Since 1998, the European Community has failed to approve a single new GM event for cultivation, despite having many dossiers that have obtained positive safety opinions from the European Food Safety Authority.

Now, after many delays, the European Commission has sent a draft decision for the approval of Bt maize event -1507 maize – to the regulatory committee under Directive 2001/18. The vote on this product is an opportunity to support the EU’s legislative and regulatory framework, and to give European farmers access to some of the same tools increasingly used by farmers in the rest of the world.

The regulatory committee vote on 1507 maize cultivation dossier is expected for 25 February. With this email I want to provide information on the product for your convenience.

We hope that we can rely on the full support of Denmark to vote to approve 1507 maize, and would be happy to provide additional information as needed to you or any of your colleagues.

Kind regards,

Heinz Degenhardt
