The ”Lisbon Strategy”, later revamped as the ”Growth and Jobs Strategy”,
was adopted by the European Council in the year 2000, with the aim to make
the EU the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the
world. Ten years later, the EU and the world is struggling with the worst eco-
nomic crisis ever. During the Spanish Presidency, the European Council is ex-
pected to adopt the successor to the Growth and Jobs Strategy, the so-called
EU2020 strategy.
Seize the opportunity to discuss the priorities and the tools in the strategy
which will increase competitiveness to the benefi
t of growth and jobs in the EU.
