CURRICULUM VITAE OF H.E. MR. CEMİL ÇİÇEKSPEAKER OF THE GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF TURKEY
H.E. Mr. Cemil Çi§ek was born in Yozgat in 1946.He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Law in 1971.After 10 years of legal practicing, he became the Mayor of Yozgat; then was elected as a Deputy for Yozgat (18thLegislative Term) and Deputy for Ankara (20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th Legislative Terms of the Grand NationalAssembly of Turkey).In addition to his duties in various commissions of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, he was also a Member of theCommittee of Reconciliation, the Committee of Constitution, the Turkish Group of the Parliamentary Assembly of theOrganization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCEPA).He served as the Minister of State and the Minister of Health -for a short time- in the governments formed by Mr. TurgutÖzal (1983-1989).He also served as the Minister of State in the governments formed by Mr. Yıldırım Akbulut(1989-1991) and Mr. Mesut Yılmaz (1996).He joined the Justice and Development Party and served as the Minister of Justice in the governments formed by Mr.Abdullah Gül (2002-2003)and Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (2003-2007).In the General Elections held on 22 June 2007 he was once again elected as a Deputy for Ankara and became amember of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the 23rd term.He served as the Minister of State, Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesman in the 60th Government formedby Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (2007-2011).In the election held on 4 July 2011, Mr. Cemil Çi§ek was elected as the 25th Speaker of the Grand National Assembly ofTurkey.He speaks English and intermediate level French.He is married with 3 children.
