Invitation
Dear Chairpersons,
Dear Colleagues,
The Covid-19 pandemic has far-reaching impacts on social and
economic development in our member states and across the
world. It presents the European Union with one of the greatest
challenges since its foundation. Yet this crisis may also present
an opportunity, to move forward on transforming the economy
and the agricultural sector in a sustainable fashion. In this
context, the European Green Deal, as one of the European
Commission’s key projects, is aimed at decisively boosting
economic recovery, whilst also putting Europe on track to
becoming the first climate-neutral continent.
Against this background, we would like to invite you, as
chairpersons of committees on the environment, energy,
transport and agriculture from the national parliaments of the EU
member states and the European Parliament, to take part in the
Conference
The European Green Deal and CAP:
for a sustainable and climate-neutral Europe
on 4/5 October 2020.
In line with the work programme of the German Bundestag and
Bundesrat for the Parliamentary Dimension of the German
Presidency of the Council of the EU, we intend to discuss current
issues and tasks of relevance for a sustainable and climate-
neutral EU. During the first two sessions, we plan to examine

how the goal of a climate-neutral European Union can be
achieved and which industrial technologies and forms of
sustainable mobility can lead us out of the crisis. Finally, we will
explore the challenges posed for the Common Agricultural Policy
by the European Commission’s “Farm to Fork” Strategy.
We are currently planning to hold the Conference as a physical
meeting at the German Bundestag in Berlin. Should the Covid-19
pandemic preclude a meeting of this kind, the Conference will
take place as a video conference on 5 October. We ask for your
understanding on this.
Up to four chairpersons or their deputies can be nominated from
each parliament to take part in the Conference.
I attach the
draft programme
(enclosure 1), along with an
information sheet
(enclosure 2)
containing technical
information,
on accreditation etc.
We look forward to your participation.
Yours sincerely,
