Invitation to the Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on the “Implementation
of the Directive on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law”,
Brussels, 4 June 2025, 14.30 – 16.30 (C.E.T.)
Honourable Chairperson,
I am pleased to inform you that the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI)
will organise an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting with National Parliaments on 4 June
2025, in Brussels, on the “Implementation of the Directive (EU) 2024/1203 of 11 April 2024 on
the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law”.
The meeting aims to discuss between National Parliaments and the European Parliament the
ongoing transposition into national law of the Directive on the Protection of the Environment
through Criminal Law, particularly as regards cross-border aspects and cooperation practices
among Member States. The transposition deadline of the Directive has been set on 21 May 2026.
The JURI committee would like to invite Members of National Parliaments to this Inter-
parliamentary Committee Meeting to share their views and experience with regard to the
transposition efforts at national level, which would provide a valuable and essential contribution
to the discussion on the important issue of environmental crimes and practical application of EU
law in this area.
I am therefore pleased to invite up to four Members of the relevant committee(s) from each
National Parliament (two from each Chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to attend
this meeting.
Practical details regarding the meeting will be forwarded in due course to the services of your
Parliament responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
