Brigitte Klintskov Jerkel,
Chair of the European Union Affairs Committee of the
Danish Folketing
14
May
2025
Dear
Ms Jerkel,
I write to you as Chair of the House of Lords European Affairs Committee in London. Thanks to the
generosity of previous COSAC Presidencies, I and my predecessor have been able to attend COSAC
Plenary and COSAC Chairpersons meetings even though the UK is no longer a member of the EU.
This has helped to enable the House of Lords and the UK to continue building positive working
relations with our European colleagues.
The importance of further developing collaboration between the UK and the EU across a range of
policy areas is expected to be highlighted in the conclusions of the UK-EU Summit that will take
place in London on 19 May. The UK’s continued attendance at EU interparliamentary conferences
plays a vital role in supporting this cooperation. I welcome the opportunity to discuss topical issues
that are of close interest to the European Affairs Committee in Copenhagen, no doubt including
developments in relation to European security policy and cooperation on North Sea renewables.
I am therefore writing to ask you to consider my request for an invitation to attend the COSAC
Chairpersons Meeting from
3-4 July
2025, along with the COSAC Plenary from
30 Nov-2 Dec
2025.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity
to take part
in the upcoming discussions in
Copenhagen.
I look forward to our cooperation and take this opportunity to wish you every success for the
Parliamentary dimension of the
Danish
Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Yours sincerely,
Lord
Peter Ricketts
Chair of the European Affairs Committee
