Anton Chechin was arrested on
December 3, 2024, near his
residence. He is a Russian citizen
who actively participated in
protest demonstrations in Georgia
and had previously been detained
under administrative charges.
Chechin is also a political refugee
from Russia — previously
persecuted for supporting
opposition leader Alexei Navalny
and for participating in anti-war
protest campaigns.
Anton Chechin is accused of
possession and storage of a large
quantity of narcotic substances, a
charge that carries a penalty of up
to 20 years or life imprisonment
under Article 260, Part 6,
Subparagraph "a" of the Criminal
Code. He denies the charges, and
his lawyer claims the case is
politically motivated.
According to the defense, Anton
Chechin was arrested in violation
of legal procedures, and no
neutral or objective evidence has
been presented against him.
A medical evaluation revealed a
cystic formation in Chechin’s brain
measuring 14/9/8 mm (with a
fibrous component up to 5.5/6
mm). A prior scan conducted in
May showed a size of 10/9 mm.
The latest medical opinion
recommends consultation with a
neurosurgeon.

Case Details
On April 29, 2025, the
Prosecutor's Office searched the
home of Lasha Arveladze,
founder of "Prosperity Georgia."
The foundation, established in
August 2024, due to the ongoing
crisis, shifted to humanitarian
work and financial support to
protest victims and individuals
dismissed from public service for
political reasons.
On March 17, as part of an
investigation initiated following a
request by "United Neutral
Georgia" — a movement affiliated
with Ivanishvili — the Prosecutor's
Office froze the bank accounts of
several foundations. The
investigation is based on

On April 29, 2025, at
approximately 08:40 a.m., a
search was conducted at the
residence of Mariam Bajelidze,
one of the co-founders of the civic
movement "Shame" and an
activist. According to Mariam
Bajelidze, Prosecutor’s Office
representatives informed her that
the investigation was being
conducted under charges of
"sabotage." At the time of the
search, Bajelidze, who is seven
months pregnant, was at home
with her young child.
The court warrant authorizing the
search was issued on April 2,
valid for a period of 30 days. The
Prosecutor’s Office has not
released a public statement
regarding this particular search.
However, as part of the broader
investigation launched under
charges of "sabotage and
assistance in hostile activities,"
the authorities froze "Shame’s"
bank accounts along with those of
several foundations on March 17,
2025.
Unlike the foundations whose
accounts were seized, "Shame"
was not involved in providing
financial assistance to unlawfully
detained or fined individuals.
